Chhandam Dance Academy Celebrates 26 Years of Dance with Annual Concert in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Chhandam Dance Academy, a beacon of Kathak dance education since its inception in Kolkata in 1998, is set to celebrate its 26th Annual Concert this year. Founded by the Smt Sreerupa Ghosh, ( disciple of esteemed Guruji Professor Brojen Mukherjee) , the academy has dedicated itself to teaching, nurturing, and promoting Kathak across all age groups.

The Bhubaneswar branch, which started its journey in 2020, aims to carry forward the revered Guru-Shishya parampara, fostering a deep connection between teacher and student. This year, the concert, themed “Mehfil,” will feature 32 talented students showcasing their skills and passion for Kathak.

Notable guests gracing the event include Smt. Poly Patnaik, the founder of Mother’s Public School, and Dr. Samit Ghosh, an eminent homeopathy doctor from Kolkata. Their presence highlights the cultural significance of the event within the community.

One of the concert’s standout features will be the live performance of Kathak accompanied by the soulful strains of the sarangi, played by Shri Kamalesh Mishra from Rabindra Bharati University. This unique combination promises to create an enchanting atmosphere, merging the visual beauty of Kathak with the melodic richness of live music.

The evening will commence with the lighting of the lamp by the esteemed guests, followed by an opening presentation that sets the stage for an extraordinary display of talent. The program will continue with a violin presentation and culminate in a Shudh Kathak performance, showcasing the purity and grace of this classical dance form.

For Smt. Sreerupa Ghosh, the guiding force behind the academy and a passionate Kathak guru, dance is not just an art form, but a heartfelt expression. She believes that her students are the heartbeats of her journey, breathing life into the traditions of Kathak.

As the Chhandam Dance Academy embarks on another year of celebration, it continues to inspire and cultivate a love for dance among the youth, ensuring that the legacy of Kathak flourishes for generations to come.
