Ahead of the festive season, Amazon India creates over 1.1 lakh seasonal job opportunities

Bhubaneswar: Amazon India today announced that it has created more than 110,000 seasonal job opportunities across its operations network, as it gears up to serve millions of customers across India during the upcoming festive season. These opportunities include direct and indirect jobs across India in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Chennai, among others. Notably, Amazon has hired thousands of women associates as well as close to 1900 PWD (persons with disabilities) into its existing network. Amazon India has already onboarded a majority of these new hires.

Sharing his thoughts on the announcement, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports said, “Amazon’s commitment to create over 1 lakh seasonal employment opportunities across India is a commendable step towards bolstering the nation’s workforce during the festive period. It is encouraging to see the company hiring a significant number of women and persons with disabilities for these roles while prioritizing the well-being of its associates through initiatives focused on their safety, healthcare, and educational support. We commend such efforts by Amazon and other corporates to generate inclusive employment opportunities while upholding worker welfare.”

“We are committed to providing customers across every serviceable pin-code in India with fast and reliable deliveries this festive season. To meet this goal, we have hired over 1.1 lakh additional people to strengthen our fulfillment and logistics network and ensure we can handle the increased demand seamlessly. A number of these associates continue to work with Amazon even after the festive season and many others return year after year to work with Amazon. Our focus remains on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our associates, whether they are working in our buildings or out making deliveries to customers. Our nationwide infrastructure is an engine for creating job opportunities and our focus remains on creating a safe, equitable and empowering environment with social security and financial wellbeing benefits”, said Abhinav Singh, VP – Operations, Amazon India.

“I feel fortunate to be part of Amazon’s mission to provide fast and reliable services to the customers. The supportive work environment and the emphasis on health and safety make it a great place to work. I’m proud to contribute to a company that values its employees and offers opportunities for personal and professional growth,” said Neha Devi, one of the associates who joined Amazon as part of this seasonal hiring.

As part of its commitment to support the well-being of associates, Amazon India has implemented a range of initiatives focused on associate wellbeing including the recently launched Project Ashray, which offers dedicated resting points for delivery associates across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Amazon also has specific welfare programs like Sushruta which offers comprehensive healthcare support to truck drivers through early detection, diagnosis, and health camps across key regions and the Pratidhi Scholarship which provides scholarships to associates’ children for quality education amongst other such initiatives.

Other benefits available for Amazon associates areIndustry leading infrastructure and amenities – Designed to ensure a safe and comfortable working environment for the employees and associates, all Amazon FCs provide access to safe drinking water, clean washrooms, and cafeteria facilities. The cafeterias are air-conditioned with adequate number of seating spaces, and have amenities such as Tea/Coffee/Snack vending machines, Microwaves, etc.

Our on-site first-aid (“AMCARE”) facilities are available to anyone needing immediate first-aid attention or rest. Any employee or associate who isn’t feeling well has access to a bed or a resting space, oral hydration, heating pads, as well as assistance from a qualified nurse available at the building. If an employee or associate isn’t feeling better after visiting the AMCARE facility, they’re referred to a nearby hospital or sent to their home in a company provided facility.

We leverage an Amazon-developed forecasting tool to provide alerts when increasing levels of heat or severe weather events are expected. Once a severe weather alert is flagged, activities and a timeline to act are prepared. For instance, if increasing heat or humidity inside buildings is found, teams act to provide comfortable working conditions, including temporarily suspending work. All employees, associates and partners receive training on the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness, environmental and personal risk factors, hydration guidance, and other tips from public health and medical professionals.

Amazon has been proactively working on initiatives that upskill associates by addressing knowledge gaps that may exist around basic financial wellbeing topics and government support programs. The financial well-being programs are rolled out through a mix of online education program for awareness building and physical financial wellbeing camps (called “Samriddhi camps”). Since February 2023, through the ‘Samridhi’ camps, we drove enrollments to two key Govt programs- E-Shram (PradhanMantriSuraksha Bima Yojana) and Health ID (Pradhan Mantri Jan AarogyaYojana). In partnership with government affiliated Common Service Centers (“CSC”), we have set up enrollment booths across 200+ buildings across Amazon’s operations network in India, benefitting 25k+ associates.
