Baliapal: Taking forward the legacy of promoting sports and sporting talents, Subarnarekha Port Private Limited (SPPL) in collaboration with Tata Steel Foundation organised the first Subarnarekha Port Volleyball Tournament here at the Baliapal College of Physical Education (BCPE) in Baliapal block of Baleswar.
A total of 10 teams – six teams from Baliapal and four from Basta block – participated in the two-day tournament that drew a huge crowd cheering for the players. Showcasing some brilliant actions during the first day of the tournament, Team Badas and Team Nikhira of Baliapal and Team Nohanjora and Team Chasipada of Basta made it to the semi-finals with Team Nikhira and Team Badas clinching berths at the Final that was held on the second day.
Deepak Kumar Das, Tahsildar, Baliapal, Hemanta Das, Sarpanch Representative, Baliapal Gram Panchayat, Jhuna Rani Patra, Panchayat Samiti member, Baliapal, Sushanta Dey, Principal, BCPE, Santosh Kumar Das, Member, State Level Volleyball Association, Odisha, Ambika Prasad Nanda, Head-CSR, Tata Steel Foundation, Odisha, Tata Steel CSR and TSF team members graced the occasion and cheered the players.
Displaying spectacular actions Team Nikhira emerged Champion of the first Subarnarekha Port Volleyball Tournament while Team Badas ended up as Runners Up. The winning and runner up teams were awarded with the trophy and prize money.
