Tata Steel Meramandali conducts onsite emergency mock drill to enhance safety preparedness

Bhubaneswar: Tata Steel Meramandali ( TSM) conducted an onsite emergency mock drill at its plant at Narendrapiur in Dhenkanal, Odisha to encourage crisis preparedness and environmental safety.

Dhenkanal District Crisis Group (DCG) Er. Puspamitra Jena, Assistant Director, Factories & Boilers (F&B), Government of Odisha, Dhenkanal Zone, Dr. Anup Mallick, Regional Officer, State Pollution Control Board, Angul Zone, Sumanta K. Khamari, Assistant Fire Officer, Dhenkanal and other members of DCG from different industries were present for the mock drill.

The emergency mock drill was conducted on a speculative hazardous scenario ‘Gas release from flange of Inlet header of Coke Oven Gas holder’. Different teams were formed as per the Onsite Emergency Preparedness Plan (OSEP) who demonstrated their expertise to mitigate the emergency scenario.

Er Puspamitra Jena appreciated the TSM management for meticulous demonstration of emergency preparedness and gave suggestions for further enhancement. Dr. Anup Mallick suggested to demonstrate such effectiveness in all such potential emergency scenarios. Representatives from nearby industries like M/s. Nava Ltd and M/s. GMR Ltd also appreciated the mock drill and shared their valuable feedback.

The drill was organized by Safety department under the guidance of Agam Kumar, Chief, Safety and Kumar Varun, Head, Process Safety.
