Dasarathapur: A woman lost her life on Monday in protest of illicit liquor . The liquor dealer attacked the woman to death. The incident, which took place in Barei village of Biripata panchayat under Jajpur district’s Mangalpur police station. This has caused a stir in the area. The deceased was identified as Lakshmi Jena, 38. Importantly, less than a week , the villagers lodged a complaint with the Mangalpur police station againt illicit liqur Business.
According to the complaint, Vijay Jena alias Mantu of the village has been selling smuggled and illicit liquor for a long time. The villagers protested, but no one listened. The Mangalpur police station, the excise department and the Jajpur district magistrate were informed on April 21 about the three liquor dealers. Then police compromised the issue between the parties. It was decided not to sell alcohol in the village. illicit liquor trdert Mantu disagreed. It was opposed by many, including Lakshmi’s husband Maheshwar Jena. After the conversation, everyone were returning home. On the way, Mantu ,his brother Manguli and father Balaram Maheshwar scolded all in obscene language.
On Sunday Maheshwar and his brother left for work at around 8.30am. Then Mantu, Manguli, Mantu’s wife Mana and his father Balaram deliberately broke into Maheshwar’s house and verbally abused him. It was opposed by Maheshwar’s wife Lakshmi and his brother’s wife. They both deal with their confidence . Mantu smashed Lakshmi on the head with a brick. Lakshmi’s head was shattered and she was bleeding profusely.
Hearing the screams, Lakshmi’s father-in-law Kailash arrived and the accused left. Lakshmi was first taken to Mangalpur community Health Center and later to Jajpur General Hospital.
Then refferd to Cuttack ,where he was pronounced dead at the scene. Lakshmi died there late at night. Tensions are running high in the village over the incident. On Monday evening, villagers laid corpses and blocked the Biripatta-Charbatia road. The police have arrived and are consulting the people.

Maheshwar has lodged a written complaint with the Mangalpur police station in this regard. Police are detaining and questioning four people in connection with the case. The detainees were Vijay Jena alias Mantu of Barei village, brother Manguli, Mantu’s wife Mana and father Balaram.
